  Death of a last Grandparent

  still read this forum from time to time, and a long time member originally since early 2000's.

  recently lost my last surviving grandparent, my great and wonderful nan.

  what a flood of emotions that released!

  JW gatherings

  one of the things i don’t like about witness gatherings is the way everything you have to do or say has to be witness related.

  the songs played at a party couldn’t be played if the lyrical content was “worldly”, and also hearing the same phrases.

  a conversation about something in the news and someone will say “well, we’re living in the last days” or “we’re in this wicked system of things, everything is horrible”.

  One of the things I don’t like about Witness gatherings is the way everything you have to do or say has to be Witness related. The songs played at a party couldn’t be played if the lyrical content was “worldly”, and also hearing the same phrases. A conversation about something in the news and someone will say “Well, we’re living in the last days” or “We’re in this wicked system of things, everything is horrible”. Another thing was the gossip and how sisters would criticize over how some sister was dancing with a brother.

  Has Politics Affected Your Friendships?

  i’ve read that some families are not looking forward to spending time with their families and friends during the holidays because of their opposing political views.. isn’t that just ridiculous?

  I had a sister tell me that the clean shaven look is really good because that’s how Jehovah’s people look like. I was gonna tell her that Jehovah’s people in the Bible had beards but I wasn’t gonna debate with her

  JWs don’t break up families

  i get very angry when i hear this claim being made by jws and get even angrier when i read the article they have on their faq section on jw.org which i’ll leave a link here:.

  i know that the majority of this article is written about having a spouse that isn’t a believer and how the bible encourages them to stay together but that’s one of the things that can cause division in a family, for an example if a son or daughter marry a nonbeliever or a worldly person the parents aren’t going to attend the wedding.. once i was told by an elder that if i continued with my behavior of wanting to seek worldly friends and worldly companionship that i would have to leave my home because the holy spirit would leave my house and that would have a huge impact on my family.

  Once I was told by an elder that if I continued with my behavior of wanting to seek worldly friends and worldly companionship that I would have to leave my home because the Holy Spirit would leave my house and that would have a huge impact on my family. I’ve even been threatened by my parents to be cut off from my young siblings and telling me that I would never be able to see them again.

  It’s crazy to me because they will make this claim that they don’t break up families when really that’s the opposite. And I ask to myself “Where is your humanity?” This should be a crime against humanity. I ask myself where is the biblical instruction on this? What happened to the parable of the Prodigal Son? As I said, it’s a very inhuman practice

  “There’s nothing out there in the world for you...”

  One I’ve been personally told was from a convert that had told me “Whenever I speak to young ones that want to know if the grass is greener on the other side, I tell them I was a part of it. It’s like running out of a building on fire and watching people trying to get in while it’s in flames and about to collapse and I question ‘Why are they trying to get in?’”
